Elsa Dorfman – The B-Sides
Elsa Dorfman is a very talented and creative portrait photographer. She is well known for using the Polaroid 20 by 24-inch camera, actually, one of the 6 that existed. After a few google searches, I learned that B-side defines having art pieces that you (the artist) loves but will not show to the audience. It's like personal work. Throughout the documentary, Elsa shows us many pictures that were never shown before. That is why this film is called "The B-Side"
Other than her using a big polaroid, I feel like her portraitures are not the same as what we as young and new aged photographers would imagine. I feel like there's a vintage vibe to it or a cozy feeling to all her pictures. Her pictures really represent who she is as a person. She makes people look comfortable in the pictures. She didn't think what others may say about her photographs she just went with what she wants.
Yes, I strongly feel like photography lets her express herself. Like I said in the previous paragraph, she stood out among the other photographers and made a name for herself without comparing herself to others.
Dear Elsa,
I love this picture, mainly because of the coolness and the bright red flower that pops out that attracts my attention first.
I also love that whenever she is taking a self-portrait or includes herself in some pictures with other people she has a button to take the picture. She could have hidden it behind her back or make it as discreet as possible but she didn't. And that proves that she isn't ashamed or overthink herself.
I also love how there's always a caption on every photograph. Handwritten may I add.
